An integrated service model capable of supporting RFID application services through T-DMB

The terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) system provides one-way broadcasting service today and two-way interactive data services through a return channel of mobile telecommunications network are commercialized recently. The possible evolution of the T-DMB will be convergence between it and other services such as RFID, telematics, and so on. From this evolution point of view, integrated service models should be defined for supporting heterogeneous applications on the T-DMB. In this paper, we propose an integrated service model that supports RFID application services on the T-DMB terminal. To realize the model, we design a service scenario and a transmission mechanism of RFID service information using DMB downlink channel, which are designed as a new transport protocol expert group (TPEG) application of DMB. The mechanism allows user to support the identical RFID application service on the user's T-DMB terminal even if the terminal does not have RFID reader capability. In addition, users could utilize the current location based RFID application service such as point of interest, for example, multimedia content, cultural, and tourist attraction information, around user's current location by using the TPEG-Location application that forms the basis of user location referencing.
